Most Innovative Ideas of Pi Network Commerce Hackathon Launch 2024

Pi is a digital Currency. Dear Pi Community, we are thrilled to announce the commencement of the Pi Commerce Hackathon, a groundbreaking event aimed at catalyzing the development of an innovative app to facilitate Pi transactions within local communities. Building upon the resounding success of PiFest in December 2023, where Pioneers from 155 countries enthusiastically participated, it has become evident that
both merchants and customers within the Pi community are eager to engage in Pi transactions. However, to fully realize this potential, there is a pressing need for a platform that seamlessly connects businesses and customers while utilizing Pi as the primary medium of exchange.

 

Introducing the Pi Commerce Hackathon, an initiative designed to address this demand by fostering the creation of a Commerce App that effectively bridges the gap between local Pi businesses and Pioneers. Developed by our Core Team, a prototype for this app will be shared at the onset of the
hackathon on February 1st. Participants will have access to the prototype, which will serve as a foundation for their development endeavors. To download the prototype and mockups, please visit  our GitHub repository, where the files are available under the Pi OS license for utilization by Pi community developers.

The Challenge

Teams participating in the hackathon will collaborate to build a Commerce App based on the Core Team’s prototype. Key features of the app include a searchable database and map of local businesses, comprehensive business profiles, menus, loyalty programs, seamless Pi payments, and more. This app aims to enhance discoverability and connections between merchants and customers within the Pi ecosystem.

Benefits and Support

The winning app will receive significant recognition during our global Pi Day celebration on March 14, 2 024, reaching millions of Pioneers worldwide through our official communications channels. Additionally, if the winning app is built using PiOS, it may receive support from the Pi Core Team, including server resources to ensure app stability and the removal of cost
barriers.

How to Participate

To participate in the hackathon, interested developers must fill out the registration form and sign up for the hackathon mailing list to receive official updates and assistance with team formation. Collaboration is encouraged, and participants are urged to reach out to fellow developers for team formation. The hackathon will take place between February 1 and March 3, 2024.

Participation Guidelines

•          Registration
is mandatory for all participants, and team formation will begin on January 23, 2024.

•          There are no restrictions on team sizes, but collaboration is encouraged for optimal results.

•          Participants
are strongly advised to use the Pi Open-Source license for their app, fostering collaboration and allowing for contributions and localization.

•          App
guidelines must be followed meticulously, including adherence to trademark guidelines, usage of Pi SDK for payments and authentication, and deployment on the Test net for interaction.

 

Instructions

Team formation will primarily occur through the “Network Commerce Hackathon” Pi coin Chat channel, where participants can introduce themselves, showcase their skills, and form teams. Additionally, a registration form and Google group will facilitate team identification and connection. Developers are encouraged to contribute to existing commerce apps on Pi OS to enrich the ecosystem further.

App Development

To develop an app, participants must register it in the Pi Developer Portal, following specified steps for configuration, testing, and deployment. Submission of the app will occur through a designated form shared with registered participants in the weeks leading up to the deadline.

Resources

A plethora of resources, including developer guides, checklists, repositories, and workshops, are available to aid participants in their development journey. These resources cover everything from onboarding to SDK usage and product design.
